The Everlasting Light of the Star
A Reflection on the Mystery of the Gift of the Revelation of the Son of God
Oh great mystery is this, the Word Made Flesh who made Himself known to us in the silence of the night. All the reflections of the elements surrounded Him, bathed in Light of Glory of the Father.
In the Book of Genesis, the first Word we hear, is "Let there be light!". The first command, God revealed was of Himself, Let there Be Light, we also know from the account and witness of Saint John the Evangelist, that GOD IS LIGHT. Isn't it amazing that the first words from Saint John follow the first words of God the Father? Let there be light! and St John says" "God is Light!" The Evangelist understood very well these words of Genesis, there deep meaning, that the foundation of the created universe has it's very first layer of life in Light, in God from Day One in the Genesis account. All creation is in God, for God, and with God. And then the Word became flesh, and His Light pierced the darkness, changing the universe forever. It all flows together almost as if one story. The Word became one by His flesh with His own creation. We are His creation, His image and likeness. To God we must be amazing that He would choose to come in the Flesh to save us. In the Silence of the Night He came, and in the same Silence He awaits for His children with His eternal Light of Epiphany; the realization of the Divinity manifesting itself to humankind as a tiny creature.
A beautiful account is given by Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta of the Word Made Flesh coming into the world by way of Light:
Dec 25, 1900
......" God and Man, Man and God! Without leaving the Father and the Holy Spirit – because true love never separates – He comes to dwell in our midst, taking on human flesh. Now, it seemed to me that Mother and Son, in that most happy instant, remained as though spiritualized, and without the slightest difficulty Jesus came out of the Maternal womb, while both of them overflowed with excess of love. In other words, those Most Pure Bodies were transformed into Light, and without the slightest impediment, Light-Jesus came out of the Light of the Mother, while both One and the Other remained whole and intact, returning, then, to their natural state. "
You and I Brothers and Sisters do not have to be present at the actual birth to receive the gift of the Light of the Christ Child. Like Saint Joseph who was not in close proximity of the birth, came to know it through the eyes of his heart: Luisa continues,
"... And Saint Joseph? It seemed to me that he was not present at the act of the birth, but remained in another corner of the cave, all engrossed in that profound Mystery. And if he did not see with the eyes of the body, he saw very well with the eyes of the soul, because he remained enraptured in sublime ecstasy. "
Pray and ask Saint Joseph for the gift of receiving the Christ Child, the Light of the World into your Heart today. God's graces are everlasting. The church celebrates this event yearly for our sake, that we may make ourselves present, especially at Holy Mass, when earth and heaven become one to receive the joy of Christ, so greatly needed today. Keep your interior fixed on Him, and you will walk with Grace and Peace among the waves of discord. Make today your
